The Helmholtz Centre Potsdam GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences is the national research centre for Earth sciences in Germany. With approx. 1180 employees, the GFZ is conducting interdisciplinary research on the “System Earth” and the influence of humans on the planet. As a member of the Helmholtz Association, it is part of Germany’s largest science organization.

We invite applications of outstanding individuals to the position in Section 1.5 “Geoinformatics”

Research Scientist (m/f)

  • contributions to the development of our Geodata Science Platform
  • development of concepts and algorithms for visual exploration of big, heterogeneous, uncertain geoscientifc data
  • implementation of these concepts and algorithms as part of the Geodata Science Platform
  • strong interdisciplinary cooperation with Partners form the regional multidisciplinary Geo.X network
  • publication and presentation of scientific results
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science or geoinformatics
  • knowledge and experience in big data analytics, visual analytics, or data integration
  • programming skills, preferable Java or Python
  • interest in working in the field of geoscience, ability to work in interdisciplinary research teams
  • good English skills
  • high motivation, creativity and self-dependence
